The Hemorrhage Hour: What Matters Most in the First 90 Minutes - Sunrise Session
7:15AM - 8:15AM
Hussam Yacoub (Presenter)

Intracerebral hemorrhage is the deadliest form of stroke, with high disability and mortality. Although hematoma expansion strongly predicts poor outcomes and has been a key treatment target, decades of single intervention trials have not shown meaningful improvements in neurological outcomes.

Objectives:
Implement ICH acute care bundle elements within less than 90 minutes of diagnosis.
Registration, Vendors, & Continental Breakfast
8:00AM - 8:30AM

Welcome & Golden Brain Award
8:30AM - 8:45AM
Yevgeniy Isayev, MD (Presenter)

50 Years of Stroke Care in Review
8:45AM - 9:30AM
Claranne Mathiesen, MSN, CNRN, SCRN, FAHA (Presenter)
Yevgeniy Isayev, MD (Presenter)

The last 50 years have seen major breakthroughs in acute stroke management and prevention, more gradual improvements in recovery, and growing insight into how stroke care may evolve by 2050.

Objectives:
Summarize major stroke treatment milestones across last 50 years.
Advances in Acute Ischemic Stroke Guidelines
9:30AM - 10:15AM
Diana Tzeng, MD (Presenter)

A new guideline from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association updates early management of acute ischemic stroke, incorporating evidence since 2019.

Objectives:
Synthesize the key revisions in the American Heart Association: acute ischemic stroke management guidelines.
Break
10:15AM - 10:30AM

Advances in GLP1 Use for Stroke Risk Reduction
10:30AM - 11:15AM
Erin Canale, MD (Presenter)

Data from cardiovascular outcome trials and meta-analyses indicate that GLP-1RAs (glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists) reduce the risk of stroke in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Objectives:
Discuss the evidence on glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1 RA’s) for stroke risk reduction.
Advances in Post Stroke Rehabilitation
11:15AM - 12:00PM
Brendan E Conroy, MD (Presenter)

Stroke rehabilitation is a critical component of comprehensive stroke care, yet access remains inequitable due to socioeconomic, geographic, racial, and insurance-related barriers, including prior authorization processes that delay appropriate post-acute placement.

Objectives:
Summarize recent advances in stroke rehabilitation interventions and innovations in neuroplasticity-based therapies, technology-assisted rehabilitation and high-intensity training models.
Lunch & Vendors - *Will be served in Kasych ECC 6,7 & 8*
12:00PM - 1:00PM

Wake up Stroke: Treat or Wait? The Great Reperfusion Debate
1:00PM - 1:45PM
Sathvik Shastry, MD (Presenter)
Ajay Menon, MD (Presenter)

Stroke with unknown time of onset can be categorized into 2 groups: wake-up stroke (WUS) and unwitnessed stroke with an onset time unavailable for reasons other than wake-up (non–wake-up unwitnessed stroke, non-WUS). We aimed to assess potential differences in the efficacy and safety of intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) between these subgroups.

Objectives:
Discuss the benefits, risks and clinical decision-making when stroke onset time is unknown.
Chilling Decisions: Is TTM Ready for Stroke Care--- or Not?
1:45PM - 2:30PM
Samip Budhathoki, MD (Presenter)
Haia Hazim, DO (Presenter)

Targeted temperature management (TTM), including hypothermia therapy, normothermia control, and febrile intervention, has been widely investigated in laboratory and preclinical studies and has provided substantial protection for neurological function.

Objectives:
Analyze the current evidence, potential benefits and associated risks of targeted temperature management (TTM) as a neuroprotective strategy in acute ischemic stroke care.
Break
2:30PM - 2:45PM

Advances in Open and Endovascular Stroke Treatments
2:45PM - 3:30PM
Anand Kaul, MD (Presenter)

Acute ischemic stroke care has advanced markedly with intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular thrombectomy now established as standard treatments, with expanding eligibility to include broader patient populations. The 2026 AHA/ASA guidelines reflect these advances, incorporating new evidence that supports wider use of clot-removal procedures and tenecteplase.

Objectives:
Describe key advances in surgical and endovascular approaches for treatment of complex stroke patients.
Advances in Age Friendly Interventions for Post-Stroke Patients
3:30PM - 4:15PM
Neti N Vora, MD (Presenter)

Describe the strategies employed to support AFHS implementation in outpatient settings and to identify the measures used to evaluate implementation and effectiveness.

Objectives:
Identify system-level and interdisciplinary practices that align stroke care with Age-Friendly Health System principles (4Ms: what matters, medication, mobility, mentation).
Closing Remarks & Evaluation
4:15PM - 4:30PM
Yevgeniy Isayev, MD
