Overview
This course is a refresher based on two International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) courses: Assisting Individuals in Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention. Participants are required to have taken those two courses prior to this refresher course. This refresher course refreshes the concepts in those two courses including the SAFER-R Model of one-on-one intervention and the Mitchell Model of Group Crisis Intervention.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Review and describe the core principles and components of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). (Knowledge)
  2. Participants will identify signs and symptoms of distress and dysfunction. (Knowledge)
  3. Identify the key components and objectives of various CISM group intervention protocols. (Practice)
  4. Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to describe the seven phases of a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), apply CISD and PostAction Staff Support principles in a casebased scenario, and develop a threestep selfcare plan to support personal resilience and recovery following a critical incident. (Practice)

Behavioral And Learning Objectives
  1. Demonstrate the use of effective crisis communication techniques during crisis response scenarios.
  2. Practice SAFERR Model of Crisis Intervention with scenario.

  3. Accreditation

    Lehigh Valley Health Network is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Completion Criteria: Registered Nurses attending the entire program will receive 5.0 Contact Hours.

    Lehigh Valley Health Network is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors to offer continuing education for Social Workers, Marriage & Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors.
