Caring Science at Bedside Day 2

ANCC Nursing Continuing Professional Development (7.50 hours)

Caring Science at the Bedside is a professional development program that consists of four 8-hour modules. It is designed to assist nurses in personal and professional understanding Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring and facilitate growth in skills to operationalize Caring Science at the bedside. The WSCI Caritas Modules were extended to LVHN via a Memorandum of Understanding to adapt to the needs of LVHN as a pilot educational program.

1. Define the theory based practice, professional practice standards, and code of ethics.
2. Demonstrate a framework for clinical practice.
3. Identify one way the Theory of Human Caring serves as a theoretical foundation for professional practice.
4. Apply the application of Caring Science and the Theory of Human Caring in clinical practice through discussion of caring moments.
5. Utilize the application of Caring Science and the Theory of Human Caring in clinical practice through discussion of caring moments.
6. Learner will explore Implicit and Explicit Biases.
7. Explore personal selfcare and self development modalities to manage stress and potentiate well becoming.
8. Define clinical practices that illustrate caring behaviors that honor human dignity.
9. Learner will relate how the four practices of gratitude, surrender, forgiveness, and compassionate human services move practitioners beyond egoself.
10. Learner will relate how the four practices of gratitude, surrender, forgiveness, and compassionate human services move practitioners beyond ego self.
11. Explore authentic presence and healing communication modalities.
12. Identify the connections between caring science and the patients care experience.
13. Analyze the clinician's role in empowering patients and families to engage in genuine teaching learning experiences that honor their healing journey.
14. Distinguish the authentic presence and healing communication modalities.
15. Compose of how of oneself as a healthcare provider demonstrate self caring process.
16. Discuss the importance of moving from authority to collaboration for engaging in authentic patientfamily teaching.
17. Develop a Heart Map that reflects how you will integrate Caring Science into your professional practice.
18. Learner will set an intention for Caritas Practice at the bedside and in leadership.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Completion Criteria: Registered Nurses attending the entire program will receive 7.5 Contact Hour(s).
