Overview

This workshop will provide foundational information for Registered Nurses who will be taking on the Charge Nurse role. Participants will learn more about the role of the charge nurse, leadership styles, communication and crucial conversations, conflict management, prioritization and delegation, workplace violence and risk management, as well as self-care and empowerment.


ANCC Learning Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe characteristics needed to be an effective charge nurse.
  2. Recognize influencers of workload and calculations for personnel need and develop key strategies to create a balanced schedule.
  3. Identify key strategies for prioritization of situations and delegation of tasks and duties as the charge nurse.
  4. Describe the core principles of patient experience and the impact of effective communication on patient trust and satisfaction.
  5. Explain the process to take as a charge nurse in the event of a workplace violence scenario.
  6. Identify one form of fierce compassion which supports Compassionate Leadership.
  7. Describe the key components of a Quality and Safety Huddle.
  8. Collaborate with other charge nurses to apply new knowledge to challenging charge nurse situations.
  9. Interview mentor charge nurses about common concerns related to the charge nurse role.

Accreditation

Lehigh Valley Health Network is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Completion Criteria: Registered Nurses attending the entire program will receive 7.5 Contact Hour(s).
