2026 Stroke Symposium: Advances in Stroke Care - ON DEMAND

This event includes content selected based on professional guidelines and practice statements, results of clinical trials and published research, regulatory standards, and from reviewing agendas of regional and national conferences. The target audience encompasses colleagues caring for stroke patients throughout the continuum. This includes providers (emergency medicine, hospital medicine, neurology, physiatry), nurses (emergency medicine, ICU, medsurg, low-level monitoring, rehab, procedural and post procedural, research), therapists (PTPTA, OTOTA, SLP), case managers, EMS providers, and anyone with an interest in stroke.

1. Implement ICH acute care bundle elements within less than 90 minutes of diagnosis.
2. Summarize major stroke treatment milestones across the last 50 years.
3. Synthesize the key revisions in the American Heart Association: acute ischemic stroke management guidelines.
4. Discuss the evidence on glucagon like peptide1 receptor (GLP1 RAs) for stroke risk reduction.
5. Summarize recent advances in stroke rehabilitation interventions and innovations in neuroplasticity based therapies, technology assisted rehabilitation and high intensity training models.
6. Discuss the benefits, risks and clinical decision making when stroke onset time is unknown.
7. Analyze the current evidence, potential benefits and associated risks of targeted temperature management (TTM) as a neuroprotective strategy in acute ischemic stroke care.
8. Describe key advances in surgical and endovascular approaches for treatment of complex stroke patients.
9. Identify system level and interdisciplinary practices that align stroke care with Age Friendly Health System principles (4Ms: what matters, medication, mobility, mentation)

1. 75% of participants will respond that they will be able to apply new knowledge to their clinical role on the post event evaluation.

Lehigh Valley Health Network is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Completion Criteria: Registered Nurses attending the entire program will receive 7 Contact Hour(s).

Lehigh Valley Hospital Pharmacy Department is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing education. Pharmacists attending the entire program and completing a program evaluation will earn 6 contact hours (0.6 CEUs) of continuing education credit. Data will be uploaded to CPE Monitor within 4-6 weeks following the program for participants who complete this activity and submit required participant information including evaluation, NABP e-Profile ID, and DOB. This course has been approved by the PA Department of Health for 5.5 hours of Continuing EMS credits. This course has been approved by the PA Department of Health Bureau of EMS with the understanding that all PA EMS Providers must adhere to the drugs and equipment approved for BLS & ALS EMS Providers and EMS Agencies, in accordance with PA Statewide BLS & ALS Protocols and PA EMS Scope of Practice for which they have been trained and/or recognized by their PA EMS Medical Director. Additionally, any presenters of this program must be pre-approved by the PA Regional EMS Council.
